Mackie DL1608 in the house!

In a leap of faith, I just picked one of these up from my brother with padded gig bag for $400. Our band determined last night loading and unloading the sound rack that the time has come to modernize and minimize our FOH sound mixer. Should be able to kill the Dual Eq's, the mixer, and a compressor/limiter in the rack while greatly reducing the weight and expanding the flexibility and convenience. I'm hoping my iPad 2 is still up to the task with the latest updates.

I have lots of reading to do.

My research has led me to believe that although you can run a ipad 2, it'll be slower. Something in the Ipad 3 is just plain OFF. So I went to an Ipad 4 with the lightning connector. My 1608 is the same. I did that because the Ipad Air is also a lightning, IF I ever chose to upgrade.

As for the "Upgrade". I did the last upgrade at home, then applied it to the 1`608. I tested it in the living room just to make sure. I DO NOT want/need any last minute surprises.

I've not updated to the latest and greatest versions and I use an iPad2. It is a little bit laggy, but fortunately I'm not doing much in the way of full band mixing on it - just vocals only, or small acoustic shows. It's a minor inconvenience but not a dealbreaker at the moment. I guess I really should update everything and see how it works. I really dislike how these upgrade schemes almost force the issue in making some hardware obsolete, or less effective. This is why I'm moving off of the iPad-only platform and onto something that will take control from a laptop/tablet and android as well.

I finally upgraded all my devices to MF 3. I have a new and old iPad and both seem fine so far. My new IPhone is ok too. Having a little issue moving around. Biggest trap for me is when I am in the aux area and want to get back to the mixer. First gig in a week so we will seek. All my shows were saved so no loss there's. Haven't set up any sub groups yet. Also not sure what the VGA or what ever they are called are for.

I'm moving up to either a used 4 or an Air from my iPad 2. Two shows and I've had to kill master fader each time to regain control of the board... When I talked to a Mackie they were yah, it run's better on later hardware... My response was along the lines of that's nice, maybe you should update your published requirements and specs? I didn't punch hard though. Over all I really like the 806/1608. Now that dante is available for the 32r, that became my main focus for a 32 channel solution. According to Mackie, there is a remote hardware control surface coming...

You gotta let us know how that goes. I've got another one coming up in 2 weeks. This'll be the new rig's 3rd show. Looking forward to it.

Sounds like they are going full on Dante which actually makes the 32r a stage box for other Dante enabled mixers. I'm way more interested in an actual control surface - I mixed ProTools on a Mackie HUI for a bit and liked that. More than the Avid stuff anyway... So they've already been down the remote control path before. If they can pull it off, the idea of a control surface out front and a stage box is ooo la la... For me.

I'm guessing this is why they added the trim feature in MF 3.1

Along with the VCAs...

Did my first gig this last weekend with version 3.1 or whatever it was, hated it. I had a new ipad mini and the drag was noticeable and I kept getting into areas I couldn't get out of too, grrr.

Thought hard about rolling back to 2.1 but pulled the trigger on an Behringer 18X should be here in a day or two. I really like the form factor as a stage box. Will use this weekend. If I like it the Mackie is history. Loved if for 4 years but no more.

Sorry I tired.

I absolutely love my Mackie 1608 and it is time for me to upgrade my IPad. My Fader is the main app I use and I am torn between an Air and a Mini. I usually only run a few channels. Does anyone here run it on a Mini? How does it look? Do you lose a lot with the decreased screen real estate? Best Buy and the Apple Store wouldn't let me download the app to see for myself. :(

My singer uses a mini... I wouldn't go there with master fader. Way too small. I'm having good luck with a 16g wifi iPad 4. My old 2 is docked and more or less hosting break music. After the busy season is done, I'll investigate he lightning connector upgrade and some other break music solution.

I may have mentioned here that I sent back the X18 and went back to mt 1608. I use both an iPad and a mini. I mix a lot on the mini especially if I'm hired to mix and not play. I don't think you will have an issue with the mini. I just added OnSong to my regular ipad which sits on it's own mike stand now for sets and words and the mini is on a small music stand that attaches to my mike stand. No problem mixing with it so go for it.

Anyone know if I can put a delay on an aux with the 1608 ? By delay, I'm not talking the effect but the ability to time align... I have a really awkward space tonight and tho only pace for my sub in forward of my tops. Or leave it in the truck and ... Well I'm addicted to the sub...

yep!

go to the EQ page for that aux and start flicking down (past the VCA and mute assign page) until you get to the output comp page; right there at the bottom is a delay slider along with a temperature input.

as soon as you nudge the slider and the delay numbers appear up top, you can even hit the numbers directly to call up the keyboard to enter exactly what distance you're dealing with.
