Hello all,

I am here today looking for assistance. I just purchased a Mackie DL806 for use with my original iPad. Only after opening the box and trying to get it up and running did I discover that Mackie no longer provides the app required in order to use the mixer with the original iPad. I contacted Mackie directly and was politely told that in spite of the fact that the unit is advertised as compatible with all versions of the iPad, there are specific areas on their website that state that the legacy version of the app required to use the mixer with the original iPad is no longer supported and they refuse to supply me with the software. They state that they require me to upgrade my iPad if I wish to use the mixer.

Is there anyone who might be able to supply me with Master Fader App version 2.0 so that I can use my new Mackie mixer? I would be quite grateful.

Pretty much you need to upgrade. I snagged a mint ipad 2, 3G and wifi, 32 gig. Mint, box, charger, cable, etc off CL for $200 to use with my 806. My original iPad 1 stays on my mic stand for lyric and chart support. It's also a backup controller for my other digital board and my lighting rig. Having multiple iPads is not necessarily a bad thing though I understand the pain of being blind-sided.

I would suggest looking for 2 or 3, and 64 gig - room for recording and a sizable iTunes library. The 3G part in my 2, came along for the ride and serves no purpose for me...

Yeah, I have been checking craigslist but I just believe I should be able to use it in the manner advertised.

I think it should be possible because I remember downloading apps from a third party website a few years ago. I downloaded to my computer and then ran the installer with iTunes.

the original ipad is such a dinosaur compared to even the ipad 3 (what i have), itself a couple generations old by now.

this is as good excuse as any to upgrade to a better ipad, 3s are pretty cheap used now. (your mixer is the 30-pin version?)

even if it were possible to downgrade, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot by using a mixer with much less routing, control and features than it was capable of, essentially not getting your money's worth out of it and locking yourself out of future free software upgrades.

There is no reason I couldn't step up to a newer ipad later on but I should not be forced to return the mixer I bought to use with my existing ipad in order to have the $$ to buy a newer ipad. They said it would work with what I have or I would not have bought it believing I could use it immediately and then upgrade later when I have more $$.

Awesome twocargar! I was able to get to the download link, thank you. Unfortunately it seems that 5.1.1 was the last os update for the original ipad so although I can get the app I still can't use it. I guess I had better get the latest version before they discontinue ipad 2 support a few months before I buy an ipad 2, huh...

One of the downsides, imo, of the Dl's is the ever changing iPad. Already the original 30pin version won't interface with new pads without an adapter. I have an iPad 2 dedicated for the mixer. But I can tell the new software upgrades are starting to overwhelm it. It sometimes locks up and the my fader app has to be restarted. I doubt the original iPad could handle it.

If buying one right now I would strongly consider the qsc for that reason. Even if I wanted the dl I would get the thunderbolt connector with the understanding the next iPad wouldn't fit the slot. That said, overall I am very satisfied with the dl.

Well wouldn't you know...

After a frustrating back and forth with Mackie wherein I was 'polietly' told, "Sucks to be you! If you look long enough around the site you'll find that we are no longer willing to supply the software needed to use the original iPad regardless of all the remaining marketing on the site that says it can be used, so go buy yourself a new iPad and have a good Christmas", I found a used iPad 2 I could afford by spending the rent money, spent another $50 for the lightning adapter and tada! I should be able to use my new Mackie mixer. I received my used iPad 2 today, complete with ios 6.1.3. Thinking the ios 8.1.1 update that the ipad downloaded automatically had already installed I went to get the MasterFader app. When I tried to install it I got the message that I could not install it because I did not yet have ios 7 but that I could install the last compatible version. After installing on the ipad 2 I picked up my original ipad. The one that started this whole fiasco last week when it would not install and no previous version was offered. Well...... ...... ...... magically I got the same message and the compatible version is now installed on my original ipad. Never a word from Mackie telling me they had decided to make it available.

I'm going to have a nice X-mas in my cardboard box under the overpass though, with my new Mackie mixer and my 2 ipads. Hehehe!

huh! had you connected the newer ipad to the mixer before ios8 installed itself?

or did this all happen just with the ipads themselves?
