Mad Professor effects?

So I need two effects, a filter/wah and a phaser. Does anyone have any experience with the offerings from Mad Professor?

The only soundclips I can find of the Tiny Orange Phaser are on guitar, and I like how it sounds more than the Small Stone, which is what I was looking at originally. Is there any low-end loss when engaged?

Then theres the Snow White Auto Wah. The other filters I've been looking at are the Groove Regulator and the AF-9. I can't find any clips the the SWAW on bass, and AF-9 clips aren't abundant (youtube).

If anyone can throw me some opinions that'd be great!

A lot of boutique and high end phasers have a lot of their magic in their subtlety and effect on the higher frequencies. The bass just doesn't have the harmonic content to really showcase the aspects that make them special on guitar.

As much as I like phasers, this is what has made it hard for me to settle down with one. You need that deep pulse so the effect is heard, but you want good character too.

I recently got to play around with a Maestro Stage Phaser again. God I forgot how great that thing sounds on bass. Super deep phasing but with a great tone as well.

I wish someone would clone it, shrink it way down and reduce the noise level a bit (at least on the one I've played it was a bit loud with the clock noise) and I'd buy one tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply man, what kind of Phaser are you using now? Also, would you put the nano small stone in good standing?

Definitley does, I've listened to the fingerstyle clip like 5 times already. I really like how it sounds, but I don't think I would be satisfied by it. I think an envelope filter would suite me better than an auto-wah.

Well, keep in mind that it is touch-responsive, not oscillator-controlled. It's just tuned like a wah. Also, if you are a pick player, it sounds even more wah- like.

I just got a T.C. Electronic XII B/K phaser that I'm digging so far. I am also strongly considering another MuTron Phasor II that I found for a decent price. I'm sure I'll pick up the new Subdecay Quasar Deluxe when it comes out too.

I'm on record as really digging the Small Stone, especially the old 70's version and the new Nano. For a budget phaser, the Nano Small Stone is far and away my favorite.

Ah I see, after listening to sound clips for the last hour, I think the Groove Regulator is the pedal for me. But who knows 'till I try it.

old Small Stone phaser sounds good on bass to me and it's cheap. It sounds mazing with ZVEX Mammoth fuzz and it sounds great on its own; but it doesn't sound too good with Groove Regulator; although I'm not running it through GR's effects loop, where it might sound better. The GR is very nice, very usable and you can get a lot of tasty sounds out of it. Some have said they prefer a wetter filter, but that you tend to get a lot of volume spikes with wetter filters. Seems like it may be harder to find the sweet spots on wetter filters too.

As an aside, I really, really like the Earthquaker Devices Grand Orbiter as a phaser for bass. It is very thick and resonant, with a unique character (which may or may not do it for you). If you can try one out, do so, because you might just like it. Also, try out an EBS BassIQ if you like the GR; I personally prefer it to the Groove Regulator.

Depends on what you like in a phaser. I have a Nano Small Stone also and I prefer my TOP. The TOP enhances my tone and is very flexible. The Small Stone becomes my tone and doesn't allow for much adjustment.

People will comment on the price of the TOP, new being about $398.00. If you are patient and look around, you can find them used, in very good condition for well under $300.00.

My 2 cents! ;)
