Got in a new set of LaBella Low Tensions and put them on yesterday morning. Not sure how I did it, but I got my A and D strings mixed up when I first put them on. Of course, the A string was long enough to be moved back to its proper spot but, the D string was just short enough that it wouldn't reach the tuning peg. It's been a LONG time since I've made that mistake. But, with a little redneck ingenuity I was back up and running

I'd like to introduce you to the Jazz crab! See the attached picture. Not a perfect solution, but it seems to be holding up just fine! Never have I ever tied a guitar string together before LOL

Great save and it does indeed look like a crab with his pincers up. On the other hand, I always carry a spare set of strings with me regardless of which brand or type I'm using on my bass. I have some GHS Boomers that I bought because they were comparatively inexpensive and could save the night in an emergency. Not sure I would even have though about using the Crab save though and well done for coming up with it.

There's an old carpenter saying that applies, "measure twice, cut once". Also, if you're strings are close in diameter, run them each through your finger tips and you'll notice the difference in a second between the A and the D strings.

If it's a good knot, there's no reason it shouldn't be stable, permanent, and fully gig worthy once it tightens.

Rope doesn't suffer from metal fatigue - steel is a different material.

Nice. This is one of the reasons I trim flats as little as possible when new so there is room to still trim as needed as I move them around on basses over the next 10-15+ years...

The toriod knot shape sympathetically resonates with the cosmos music of the spheres centered at 455hz
It works much better if the bass has a adequate supply of di-lithium crystals.
Thats what the hole in the body under the pickguard is actually for. The di-lithium tone crystals
