Made a bonehead move....

Got in a new set of LaBella Low Tensions and put them on yesterday morning. Not sure how I did it, but I got my A and D strings mixed up when I first put them on. Of course, the A string was long enough to be moved back to its proper spot but, the D string was just short enough that it wouldn't reach the tuning peg. It's been a LONG time since I've made that mistake. But, with a little redneck ingenuity I was back up and running :)

I'd like to introduce you to the Jazz crab! See the attached picture. Not a perfect solution, but it seems to be holding up just fine! Never have I ever tied a guitar string together before LOL

Guess it will work “ in a pinch “.:D:D:D

If need be, you can order single strings .

Wow! Would I be bringing a back-up set of strings (and a back-up bass) to my next gig!

That’s a perfectly acceptable repair in that situation.

I semi-regularly splice broken piano bass strings that break in the non-speaking length between the tuning pin and the agraffe or hitch pin. It’s actually preferred because of the hassle of installing a new bass string(s) among the rest of the set with some use and age on them.

Your repair can be permanent, unless you don’t care for the looks.
