At a jazz jam last night, a guy introduced himself. He’s a music teacher, and said he’s taken a couple of videos of me playing recently to show his girl students. He wanted a sort of “proof of concept” for them, demonstrating that playing bass (or whatever instrument) really is something women do. He said a couple of them were very excited by that.
I’m a very average player, s l o w l y getting better, but I tell you, that made my day. I focus so much on how fabulous other players here are, to glimpse that I’m helping too (even just a bit) is amazing.
