Magellan MG800 with GK Neo 12 cabs?

Anyone using a MG800 (or MG350) with the GK 12" Neo cabs? Have a line on a Neo 212 II for a great price, an hour's drive away, strongly considering it for gigs. A Neo 112 II might be great for band rehearsal. Both, or two 112s, could meet most of my needs...

Considering buying it just to try out, but, trying out is a long process, requiring multiple actual gigs and rehearsals in different rooms. (Yes, this is a "First World Problem." Would love some input, thx!

What I'm interested in hearing about is the sound of these 12s permutations, not the choice between using a 212 (simpler setup, cheaper, lighter and smaller overall) or 2 x 112 (taller, smaller footprint, lighter individually)...though I'd love to hear about the differences in bass response and from vertical vs. diagonal.

And if anyone could compare these GK cabs to my Baer ML112 or Berg CN112, we'll that would be sweet...maybe that's another thread. Getting a second CN112 is definitely another possibility! (In fact, will be trying CN112 with a Eden Ex112 on top at a bar gig tonight.)

Play in rock bands mostly, low to moderate volumes, smallish venues.

I have used my Magellan 800 with 2 GK NEO 112'S several times and it sounds very good. I have also used that amp with a GK NEO 410, Genz Benz UBER QUAD and 115 and 2 TC Electronic RS210 cabs and quite frankly that amp sounds great with all of them.

That amp is extremely versatile and although I find the NEO 112 mid forward with a pretty good amount of low end, it also tends to sound very good with any amp I use with it.

Generally the NEO 112's tend to get more favorable reviews than the other GK NEO cabs. I tend to like those cabs better horizontally because of better coupling, but they also sound good vertically. Hope that helps.

Thanks... Yeah, I've definitely read a lot of good stuff about the GK Neo 12s here on TalkBass!

Mid forward, that is kind of my sound, tho sometimes feels like too much of a good thing with the mg800. Almost considering something other than nickel wound roundwounds, for first time ever.

Something I have been wondering about is, the difference between a manufacturer's heads and cabs. Seems like one maker can go in different directions with those two components, which in sum result in their signature sound. Planning to start a thread on this someday.

I would be comfortable becoming a GK guy, often felt half inevitable.

I've used a shuttle 3.0 with the GK neo 112 and it sounded great. Don't know if that helps - different amp, same family tree - but the voicing of the amp worked really well with that cab.

My ShuttleMax 9.2 sounded great with the NEO 412 I had for a while. I would expect the Genzler and 2x12 to also be great.

But if you already have 2 different 1x12s, sell the one you like less and get a match for the other. Unless you have use of leaving cabs at different locations, the 2 single 12s are superfluous. Achieve a matching pair, and then keep/add whatever you need for rehearsals, etc...
