Magma Nylons

Trying these. They feel good not sticky or funny, but more like a smooth round wound than a flat wound. Flexible and low tension 53-113 on the box but seem not so fat. Also they are much brighter than expected but they sound very nice on my P. I will be trying them on a gig next week and see how they are in the mix. I was liking my violin bass with flats in the blues band with its tight punch, but want to play the P. Hear them both straight into Audacity.

I gigged with the Magma tapewounds and they are keepers. Good clear fundamentals and very little noise when using a pick. Plenty of sustain and even sounding across all 4 strings. (I wasn't fiddling with my amp all night)
I've used 2 other brands of tapewounds in the past, I think Labellas? didn't last/came unwound and Fenders? were too rough. These feel good and seem like they will last a long time.
The silks are bright green.

A video review in Brazilian Portuguese:

The reviewer's pick-only approach doesn't entirely help, but Magma black nylon tapes seem to belong to the bright hand side of the tapewound spectrum, similar to D'Addario ETB92, Fender 9120 and La Bella 760C or 760G White Nylons (perhaps less so than the 760T).

Yes, they are articulate for tapewounds and the Medium set even displays a bit of growliness. If you are a 5/6 string player, the 140 low B is glorious. Don't be put off by the gauges of the E and B, the tension is average. Personally, I dislike LaBella's low B strings, they feel week and floppy to me.

The reason the tension is moderate is because the tape adds @ 13 to 15 thou of diameter, but the nylon does not have any appreciable mass to make the string have more tension. So these strings have about the tension of a regular set of 40-100 rounds.
