I say the Marcus Miller. Check my avatar, it's my Marcus without the pickgaurd or pup cover. I have a MM four string and I love it. I play everything from fusion to prog to funk to country all on the same bass. I was thinking about getting a Warwick fretless, but after I played one, I din't like it at all. So I went with a MIM Fender Fretless Jazz.

And as my signature says, "You don't need a $3000 bass to be a great bassist". But it all depends on what you want out of a bass. All I can say is my Marcus has great tone, is very easy to play, and looks great.

Good luck on your decision.

You truly are lucky. The neck dive on this thing is worst than my SG guitar. I'm once again teetering on this. I do need a 5 string, but I don't think this is it. And I hardly ever lose money on trading/selling, when you take into account the deals I got on alot of stuff.

and for anyone interested in seeing the Thumb: http://photobucket.com/albums/v502/cental34/Bass/?multi=5&addtype=

Mine's a lot better than my Gibson SG, it's a 77 too :-p

I had a 1994 Thumb 5 Bolt-On and no, it didn't balance very well, but after about 2 hours of playing it, I was used to the extra neck weight and had gotten comfortable with it. I never noticed it after that. The Thumb has a distinct tone that no other bass has. It was perfect for the hard rock I was doing because of its growl (THIS is the bass that led to the term "Warwick Growl" I think) but then I sold it because it wasn't fitting the style of music I was playing at the time (I was getting into a more mellow groovy rock) and bought a Warwick Streamer LX5, which was absolutely perfect. Recently I started really missing the sound of that Thumb though, and after a little looking (coincidentally, I was considering buying xCentral34x's a week or so ago!) I found a nice Thumb 6 Bolt-On with Basslines for $950. It should arrive from UPS in a day or 2.

If the Thumb doesn't fit your sound, you can always buy one later. Get what will work best for you. If that means selling your Thumb, buying an MM, and possibly pocketing $400 or more, there's no reason not to switch to the MM. It would be like getting paid $400 to play a great bass. Why not?

But if you can easily afford the MM next month without getting rid of the Thumb, I don't recommend selling it. :)
