make you strings last longer?

ok guys,
i was a TV prog recently (can't remember what on - it was really weird), and on there they showed how biological washing powder dissolved human flesh...
this left me thinking....could I use it to get make my strings sound new again..so I tried it...
I boiled em in bio washing powder for a while, and surprisingly the G, D strings sounded almost new, and the A and E sounded newer.

I'm wondering if anyone else has tried anything similar?

why g and d strings are more affected than the others? maybe its not the powder but its the boiling. because the only major difference they got is their gauge.

could be, but when I've boiled em before, it had no effect
