well, you say that's a better way, but they're really both about the same, and I've heard arguments con and pro both....Again, both are fine, it's just a matter of preference.

Indeed. "Better" for me , if only because I don't want to see the joint. That way also works better (for me) with laminated necks because I don't have to fuss around to get the alignment of the lams spot on.

With the joint in the headstock, what are the cons that wouldn't also be cons with the joint in the neck?

If I the jointing processes understand correctly, what about
- smaller joint area (across headstoc thicknes rather than across neck thickness)?
- less or no stock from which to form a volute?

or am I off with this?
