Double Bass Making an EUB Sound More Like an Acoustic

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the Effects forum or this one, but it just feels like it belongs here more.

Anyway...

OK, so I'm getting an electric upright for Christmas and I was wondering if there were any pedals I could use to make it sound more like an acoustic upright. I know there are a number of pedals to make acoustic electric guitars sound more like regular acoustics, such as the Electronix Stronghold. Would one of these work?

I've tried a Boss AC-2 with a NS Design CR bass through both the magnetic and the piezo. It does very little in making a EUB sound acoustic, but it does give a very subtle amount of acoustic resonance in the upper ranges of the the EUB (helps the sound during solos). For the lower end it just boosts lows without giving resonance. The big deal killer for me was that it introduced a lot of hiss to the signal.

Ive never found anything that worked. Ive tried some mode modifiers on my GT10B and it really just gets in the way of having a clear tone. EUBs with the pickup in the bridge like a full circle may have better luck.

Id recommend trying to make the EUB sound as good as it can be with its own natural characteristics.

This is prudent.. ^^^^^^

they really sound like a rich fretless.

I find that my plugged acoustic fretlesses sound more upright ..

Or better yet the ashbory.

The best way is PLAY it like an upright. Get a legit double bass teacher and try to take your lessons on their bass. I did that this last year with a student of mine - he takes his lessons on my double bass, last week he had his Ergo 5 with him and he just sounded great!

EUBs are double basses. In the double bass world most problems are solved with technique and not mods or gear.

[Off topic, soap box warning]

Too many people have the same mentality as "hot rod" collectors and owners when it comes to gear; they are Gearheads. They learn about all of the parts, accessories, latest gear, modifications and "stuff". Frankly, the most knowledgeable people on TB aren't the [DEL]least bit[/DEL] most impressive musicians. It is far easier to read brochures and buy stuff than to spend hours a day becoming a better musician. The question that comes to mind is "are you aspiring to be a good bassist, or are you aspiring to run a music store?"

Bottom line is money and time on instruction will improve the sound far more than if it were spent on gear.

I think that you can't make an acoustic sound.
that is the natural beauty about it

Yes, it is a broad generalization. I should have worded it differently and it's heavily biased towards what I read when I get curious about the BG side, but the DB side has people who suffer from it to. A lot of talking about the best brand for a pick guard, the latest and greatest speaker brands, this brand of pickup vs that one and the differences between this make of bass guitar vs that make, the infinite superiority of 34.5" length vs 34" yet they can only play in the Key of A,E & G and can't read music. It's madness and counterproductive.

I don't know them, but you can definitely Google any musician based on their profile and name.
