Double Bass Making an EUB Sound More Like an Acoustic

I had a Palatino for several years until I got and Eminence. I found the solution to good sound came though my hands believe it or not. It is basically a big electric bass guitar without frets. Learning to manipulate your hand will get you close but you will never get an upright sound exactly. Electronics help but still can't get you all the way there.

I'm a complete newbie to EUBs, so take this with a spoonful of salt, but I found the tone on my NS NXT improved greatly when I ran it through a slight overdrive. I'm using an OLC Flipster and with the gain down low the signal doesn't break-up or distort, but the highs get choked off a little and notes are less likely to mwah like on a fretless BG. I'm not sure it sounds more like a DB, but it adds some of that fatness that EUBs seem to miss. My .02.
