Have had D'Adarrio chrome flats (ECB81's) on my p bass for the last few months since I switched over to bass. Really, really love them. I started thinking, that's when I usually get in trouble, I might like to try a new set of strings on my bass, just to see what else is out there. Not a fan of round wounds for all the same reasons everyone else who prefers flats have, but I thought maybe half wounds would offer some additional sizzle with the benefits of flats (smoother surface, less clang, etc.). Man was I wrong. Bought a pair of D'Addario Half Rounds, put them on and....terrible. What a waste of 25 bucks. They were very tacky, didn't sound nearly as good as the flats, looked kind of dull - are these the same guys who make the ECB81's? To each their own of course
. After two hours of playing, I couldn't wait to get the flats back on. Ahhhhh, that's better. Glad that's over with. So the lesson? Never mess with a great thing
