Managing 2 basses with dedicated mixer?

Hello, I will have a gig for next week after 10 years. I have many basses but I really need two of them, Fender AM DLX jazz and, steve harris signature P. Jazz is active and P is passive. I am planning to use Yamaha 6 channel(entry level) mixer for to reduce output gap between active and passive. It will be like that:

jazz + P ->mixer -> pedalboard -> PA or amp.

What do you think about it? I don't have pedal for connecting two basses but I have small mixer. does it work? Thanks!

I play bass and keys in my current band. I use a small mixer all the time. This also makes it easier to adjust the volume on stage without affecting FOH. If needed I have a DI between each instrument and my mixer. Could also send a sub-mix to FOH if needed but haven't done this yet

I'd bet that the mixer could work fine. If you already have the mixer, you're probably all set.

If you don't have the mixer yet and want to consider another option, I'm pretty sure that one of the ideal gizmos for using two different basses is the Radial Bassbone. I haven't gigged in a little while, but I have an equipment lineup similar to yours; a passive Jazz and a custom P/J with active EMGs. If I decide to use both of these basses for future gigs, a box like this one could be exactly what I want for easy transitions.

You may be disappointed with the P into the Yamaha. A passive P wants to see an input impedance of at least 500k ohms, with 1 meg ohms being typical for bass amp input impedance.

The "high" impedance input of most mixers is 50k, with some going as low as 10k. This will load down your pickup, and muddy the bass. You need to go through some sort of buffer to lower the impedance of the P before it hits the mixer.

The Yamaha mixer may not be the right tool for this job.

I understand that I need a DI before hitting The Yamaha mixer for P bass. Active J is fine with The Yamaha with out DI.
