Multi Series – Manne Guitars

Just saw these basses for the first time today and started drooling. So unique and gorgeous! I will definitely be keeping my eye out for one in the future.

Manne makes wonderful instruments, though fairly unknown in the US. I have a stellar Taos guitar and have played many others, guitar and bass, as we actually had two dealers here in Atlanta for a while. That 7-string is right up my alley!

It's unfortunate that they haven't been able to break into the US market. I just picked up a used Basic XLR 5 and I'm digging it. I don't love the skinny, 5-inline arrow headstock on it though and it's pretty heavy, so I'm thinking about converting it into a headless. Their stock pickups are pretty awesome.

I've had a 1990 Manne Custom 6 fretless for a couple of years now. It is a really smart instrument with solid figured maple wings. I bought it when I was listening to a lot of UZEB and Alain Caron stuff though in truth I play my Pentabuzz a lot more. Still, I don't think I've ever seen another one of these for sale. I bought it from the original owner in Italy.

That's a gorgeous bass! I wish I could find a Manne 6 here in the US.

That beauty is mine. I don’t think you’re going to get a Jaco tone out of these basses. Set neck, wooden Piezo bridge 31 inch scale and 28 frets. Working with Andrea has been wonderful and I have a fretless on order. They have a very unique voice. The pickup is in the “stingray” position. If you have any more questions PM or post here. I’m on the road so I might be slow in my replies. They are truly absolutely amazing instruments and Andrea is a master craftsman. I would check out the video of Scott Devine demoing the bass so you can get an idea of its character.
Also if you decide to order one be aware that the bass price doesn’t include the import duties and they can be pretty steep.

Thanks for chiming in! Do you recall the percentage you had to pay for import duties? I've having a hard time finding specific values for Italy, I'm seeing ranges from 6% to 40%!

Your bass looks incredible, the Devine video turned me on to Manne stuff. I love the tone he got out of the Multi.

You’re welcome. They are great and Andrea is really easy to work with. If you do ask him about pick up placement to get a jazz bass tone he may be able to get you hooked up. Email him or use what’s app. From the best I can tell there is no hard and fast rule for import duties. I ended up paying about 12% of the cost of the instrument.

I've been working with Andrea to put together an order for a Multi 6. After thinking on it I'm not too fussed about not being able to get the quacky bridge tone as I'll be using this bass mainly for jazz and solo type stuff. My bass will be pretty similar to the bass in the Scott DeVine video but a different color and with luminlay side dots. It sounds like the build time may be pretty fast since, Andrea mentioned he has another Multi to build and he may do them at the same time.

I think this is the color I'm going to go with:

Hi there, I've helped designing the Multi so feel free to ask in case you have any question. That specific bass in the pic sounds great with the extra MM positioned pickup. If you need something more into the Jaco realm (considering we are talking about a 31" set neck and not a 34" bolt-on) you can just opt for a bridge pickup.

Anyone else played a Multi? They tick a lot of boxes for me and I'm strongly considering getting the ball rolling on one. I often use the bridge pickup on my basses to get the burpy Jaco thing, how far back does the pickup need to be to get that tone? I noticed this build with a second pickup but it seems to be placed fairly far forward.
