Are you selling it on Portland craisgslist? I just messaged you on the craigslist app. This thing is so sweet and Im somewhat interested as well as less than 3 hrs from Portland on the coastedThat beauty is mine. I don’t think you’re going to get a Jaco tone out of these basses. Set neck, wooden Piezo bridge 31 inch scale and 28 frets. Working with Andrea has been wonderful and I have a fretless on order. They have a very unique voice. The pickup is in the “stingray” position. If you have any more questions PM or post here. I’m on the road so I might be slow in my replies. They are truly absolutely amazing instruments and Andrea is a master craftsman. I would check out the video of Scott Devine demoing the bass so you can get an idea of its character.
Also if you decide to order one be aware that the bass price doesn’t include the import duties and they can be pretty steep.
Man, before I even saw this comment I just spent the last two hours watching basically every single one of your videos lol. It started as intrigue for the bass since there is one for sale locally (with two magnetic pups) and evolved into being inspired to expand my bass playing. Especially with having a piezo pickup, there is so much more I can be doing with a bass in my music (I am a producer of sorts). You’ve inspired me to take a more open minded approach to the instrument. And by the way I love some of the stuff you did with pedals/fx. So sick.Hi there, the Multi is fully customisable. So beside the 31" and the setneck, if you wanna step into a Jaco-ish growly territory you might consider having a bridge pickup in combination with the other magnetics and piezo.
Here's a playlist of Multi videos featuring all kind of tones, from open piezo only to magnetics with tone rolled off. I designed the bass, if you need any feedback just let me know.
Thanks a lot for your words about my music and playing, I appreciate it! If you are interested in a somewhat more "normal" approach and wanna hear the bass in a band setting I suggests you 2 albums: "Imaginary Faces" by Kristof Bacso Triad and "Amrut Laya" w/ Ziv Ravitz and Federico Casagrande. You'll hear 2 different basses: on "Imaginary Faces" I'm playing the very first Multi build (the red one I'm playing in my pic over here), many of the first Multis including Scott one share the same specs. It feat chestnut body, poplar top, 1 magnetic at the neck and the piezo. On "Amrut Laya" I'm playing a version I've developed later with pawlonia body, walnut top, a magnetic at the neck, 1 in Music Man position, and a piezo. Both have their own distinct sound due to the wood combination, I find the pawlonia to cut beautifully in the mix, while the chestnut stays a little back in an interesting distinct way, but not in your face. As far as the pickup in MM position I cant' pinpoint a tune which features it by itself but Amrut Laya has plenty of it often in combination with the other pickups. The 2 magnetics neck/MM together sounds terrific, way more interesting to me than the typical neck/bridge tone. I'm also very fond of the sound of the 3 pickups together (check out The Joker on my IG or Manne's YT). Also note that the top doesn't seem to affect much the magnetic tone but it does make a lot of difference on the piezo since it seats right below it. The poplar top gets you a way brighter piezo tone than the walnut. If you wanna hear a standalone piezo tone with poplar top (in that case with a pawlonia body on a magneticless Multi) check out my solo video "Uzal". I've also got a 7 strings, piezoless, topless and solid body with the MM and bridge w/ active eq which I've toured with but not recorded with it yet. Hope this helps!Man, before I even saw this comment I just spent the last two hours watching basically every single one of your videos lol. With that said, I was trying to find some stuff that was more in the realm of “normal” style bass playing, that is to say, more typical single note rhythmic/less virtuosic or melodic to see how these would sound in a mix. The one Im looking at has two pickups, (it’s the one mrgittleman posted). I did find a couple of things on your instagram I believe where you were playing in the lower registers where a more “normal” bass line would typically be and it sounded great. So that was exciting. I have never used just the bridge pickup on any bass ever for more than two seconds and dont typically like the sound nor care about a Jaco type of sound. But of course I do love blended J and P position scooped sound. These seem to have the bridge pickup much closer to the neck, almost as if it were a middle position which I am curious about in terms of how it sounds by itself as well as blended with the Neck. I guess what Im curious about is what can it do well and what can it NOT do well in the more typical realm of bass playing.
Anyway, Im going to wake up thinking about considering getting this bass and wanted to say thanks again for the sick videos you have up!
Thanks so music for the input. I listened to those albums last night and fell asleep to it. Im watching your video “uzal” on YouTube and have to ask… are you using a surfing fin key as a pick?! If not it looks exactly like one LOL.Thanks a lot for your words about my music and playing, I appreciate it! Great to know you are getting it! About the pick.. it does look like it but on the tip has a brush made of very thin guitar strings. Enjoy your Multi! Thanks so music for the input. Ps, I am driving this week 3 hours each way to get the Manne multi 6!
