Double Bass Man's best friend (DB Forum Thread)

Man, my dog is getting old and doesn't have a ton of time left. The first dog that was 'my' dog, and my son's best friend, and mine and my wife's too. He's limping and has been battling displasia for a long time now, and tonight watching him with my son it's just hitting me how much I'll miss him some day, so trying to appreciate him as much as I can. This retriever used to swim right behind me in triathlons, and still have energy to burn. He's 110% all adrenalin animal, and more man than most of the people I've known.

So here's a thread for man's best friend. Share pics of your dog, whether they're still around or already passed. And here's to the joy they bring to our lives...

Cheers.

Thank you for starting this thread. Those are both beautiful dogs in the previous posts!

I absolutely can't imagine ever living without dogs in my life. They bring so much joy, affection, and unconditional love.

Here is a picture of our three dogs a couple years ago. From Left to Right they are Poppet, Eddie, and Tripp. Eddie went to live with our son when one of his dogs passed and he needed another dog to be his special little buddy. I have never seen a dog and a person bond the way those two did. Eddie developed diabetes and went blind but Brad (who was a medic and is now a Physicians Assistant) gave him twice daily insulin shots and kept him happy and healthy for quite some time before he eventually passed.

Poppet and Tripp are still with us and enjoy sharing our retired life - including some rather epic trips in our little motorhome. Poppet sleeps under the covers in bed with us and keeps us warm at night.

I will raise a glass in honor and affection for Man's best friend(s).

My wife and I have had pets all of our lives together (44 years plus dating years). It started with large (3 foot +) adopted (unwanted) South American Green Iguanas (at ~3 years and ~3 feet they get aggressive and very often need new homes); about 25 years ago we stopped adopting them so our young kids wouldn't get bit or whipped, and began adopting cats. At this time we have a houseful of well loved and cared for cats and one well loved and cared for little dog. They're all part of the family.

The problem with having pets that are close to our hearts is that we tend to outlive them. It's like loosing family when their times come. The only consolation is that we can ease their passage tremendously. It still hurts a lot, but in our hearts we know it is right that we be there for them and help them through.

While each individual pet truly is irreplaceable, adopting a young pet to take the place of a pet that is lost helps tremendously... I'd always recommend it, either before the older pet passes, or after... It soothes the heart, and it provides a home for an animal that really needs it.

JoJo (the dog faced dog) my first pup as a homeowner. He was my Jeep dog. Wouldn’t let me go to the store without him, because hey ride in the Jeep, and a beef stick from the carry out. Didn’t need a leash. I’d snap once and he’d be right there. On his last full day I shared a bacon pizza with him, and I didn’t have very much. He was a very good boy and although it’s been a few years (and we have some new fun dogs, we still miss him and think of him often. Spoiling him with love and pets is always the right thing to do

My old ladies. Jane's a pit mix I adopted out of the shelter as soon as I bought my house 13 years ago. Sweetest dog EVER. NoBo is a little mutt somebody dumped in the park across the street from my house several years ago.

They're my everything, good girls. (=

Picture was taken mid yawn, hence NoBo's expression. She's also a sweet, sometimes ornery little girl.

I hope they live forever. I love every minute with them.

I buried one of my dogs last year. After a brutal day of me and the family a teary mess burying it, I started looking for other options. With a couple of acre yard, a friend suggested a miniature donkey as a way to combine family pet and lawnmower. I was all in until I realized I would be in my 80s before it passed and it would likely outlive me!

I wanted a donkey, but my wife said one jackass around the house was enough. I had a pig for a while tho, that was pretty cool. Used to walk her around town on a leash, lol. She was delicious too, so that was a plus....

Once sentiments shared here.

I swoop in from the Bass Guitar side to present "Dude". (Along with the Princesses de Fingers.) He's still under his 6 month factory warranty and all stubborn, loveable beagle.

(The Princesses are loveable too.... albeit a little more complicated. ;))
