Mantic density hulk (DOD Meatbox Clone)

What? Denver? No way. I follow your Facebook page from both my personal account and Tanzen, my band. I'm over in Aurora. Do you guys have a shop set up? I'd totally be interested in grabbing one of these once I grab some money -- save on shipping!

Nice. It's great working with people face-to-face and developing a dialogue with artists. It makes feedback so much more efficient.

We've got a workshop set up just NE of Denver (Commerce City) right now and as soon as we rebuild our inventory (we've been selling these faster than we can build them!) both Soundtown and Music Gear Guys have said they'd be interested in carrying them. You should shoot us a message as soon as your ready to place an order and we can arrange a shop visit.

Thanks for the support,

Yeah it'll a while before I can make a purcha$e. Probably after Christmas. I'll definitely throw a message over when I can.

Quite a few people have received their Density Hulks. We've been getting great feedback also. Most customers claim the tracking to be better on the Density Hulk vs the DOD Meat box. One customer who allowed us to share his feedback says...

"Just finished soundcheck for a show tonight at the Nokia Theatre in LA and the Density Hulk is just devastating! Sounds amazing; our sound guy is loving it.... seems way more solid, responsive, beefy and smoother than my meatbox which is a total improvement! gonna make those subs sweat for sure!"
-Simon Francis (Ellie Goulding's bassist)

Here's his beautiful looking pedal board: http://imgur.com/1H923

But Juans video review should be up in January 2013. Assuming the world is still here. :smug:

I just got mine! Here's my first impressions.

Solid looking pedal, well built. It's big, but they are working smaller version of it.
It doesn't come with any documentation, so I made some research and found the Meatbox docs on this website:

It does exactly what it is made for: make walls shake.
It tracks well and it really beefs up the sound.

It looks like preamps don't like it when the Lvl knob is higher than 12:00. It can make preamps clip very easily. My TC Electronic rs212 cab survived so far, but not my studio headphones.

On some notes, there's a huge rattle in the wall near my amp and it sounds louder than the actual sound that comes out the amp. Deep!!

An interesting use I found is put it in a parallel loop (like with a boss LS-2), Lvl at 12:00, 60hz, 30hz and sub at max. With MXR-BOD -> Magnetar -> Cosmichorus in the other loop: you have super deep bass synth. Lots of fun!

For now I'm very pleased with it. I've got some more knob exploration to do...

LOL. So they can't fit the expression control on the DHslim. Understandable....but sad....as that's $60 more AND takes up that real estate. Gotta do some measuring and see if I can swing it.

It's the same footprint, just taller. I had Luis remove the stepgaurd to take some of the unnecessary height off the top and put it in my 3rd row. It's a little big but not too cumbersome... then again I have a Cali76TX, the B-Max, Deep Impact and 2nd Vce Dlx on my board so maybe I'm not the one to speak to the space concerns.

I also had him do a custom finish...

LOL. Ok. Height has NEVER bothered me so I didn't even think that would be the issue. Figured slimmer would be with the width. Pretty sure I'll be pulling the trigger on one, soon. That finish is totally rad. Did it cost extra?

The rusted out finish does cost extra, like $25-30 IIRC. The stepguard "removal" is NC because he just deosn't install it. The exp cotnrol on the Sub is also extra, I forgot how much though. I don't know, I feel like it's all worth it... if you're going to go custom you might as well make it yours.

Thanks!

The low A sounds weird, that's the lowest note I was able to make. However, it sounded more clean on my other bass, a Lakland DJ4. The G# and lower goes an octave higher.

There's some clipping in the video, I don't have a compressor/limiter (yet!).
