Manufacturer refurbished?

I know what it means, but ... is there a risk? Online retailer Hifi Sound Connection lists quite a few manufacturer refurbished units at pretty substantial markdowns.

The latest of interest to me is a Peavey PVH cabinet on eBay. Hifi says they are a Peavey dealer; item has been returned, repaired and tested; full warranty applies.

I remember one TBer posted bad luck tales (LONG delivery time and some runaround) about this company in the Kustom KXB 500 meag-thread. Other than that, I know nothing good or bad about this company.

In general, check the warranty on refurb equipment. If it comes with a full warranty from the manufacturer, not the reseller, it is good. Some companies for example, may offer a one year warranty on new products and a three month warranty on refurbished items.

I am always a fan of manufacturer refurbs and highly recommend them to all my friends. You get a good deal on an item that has seen a greater degree of testing than the average unit, they don't want the item to fudge up twice.

Thanks, guys. Come to think of it, maybe I read some of that stuff about Hifi Sound Connection before. Something about them never did sit quite right with me.

I'm typing this response on a manufacturer refurbished HP laptop and it's the best computer I've ever owned.

If you bought it through Ebay, I would imagine it's in their best interest to get the item to you within the time described in the auction/transaction.

If you get the manufacturer's warranty, you should be good.

I'm always for a great deal, but I'll be the dissenter here: I stay far, far away from refurbished electronics. While it's anecdotal rather than statistical, my experience is that refurbished electronics often bite the dust quicker than non-refurbed electronics. A refurbed cab may be alright, since it's (mostly) a mechanical device, but I'd never buy a refurbed amp.
