Maple Finger-boards, Who Likes?

How many prefer maple fingerboards over other types?

I have played and owned 2 maple fingerboard bass'. The first I played a frineds Rick with a mapel and I then got a cheap Charvel w/mapel finger board. The Rick was great!

Anyways, another question is it wrong to change a neck on say a Jazz bass with another "like" Jazz. For example if you have a 95 and a 98 Jazz, one with rose the other with maple, but want to switch the necks because you prefer the body/electronic in the other, is that ok?:confused: Then sell the one you don't like, and be up front with what was done.

Personally, I favor ebony. A close second would be the "phenowood" found on Zons.

On a Jazz bass, however, maple is great. It's tough on less accomplished players since it tends to bring out a lot of fret noise, but I love the growl.

You mean a Rickenbacker? With a Maple board??

I love maple boards...I prefer them over all others. Followed closely by Ebony.

Sucks cause I own a Ric!!!!!

Only ones, 4003, 4001, Cheyenne...so on and so forth all have dark colored boards. I've heard rumor that select few were rosewood but most, including mine are Bubinga (99% sure)

That's why I wanna see a pic so bad.....I've always thought a maple boarded Ric would be awesome looking.

Like all the woods, including maple.

Unless the board is gooped up with too much finish. That happened on a 1st edition Stingray I bought in '76. So much clear coat the bass would hardly fret. Felt and looked like it was an eighth inch thick. Unplayable POS.

Really like what G&L does with Gun Oil tint on their maples. Feels great, looks terrific.
