Maple Finger-boards, Who Likes?

I personally prefer Ebony, although on my Status 6 String I had rosewood which sonded pretty nice. Maple sounded great on my Stingray but I think the main thing is the combination of body/pickups/neck. I don't think a bass will sound "bad" just because of the wood used on the fingerboard.

whilst I know that different woods on the fingerboard do affect the tonal qualities of a bass I think the impact uis neglibible compred ot other factors therefore I see fingerboard wood as largley cosmetic. I think which would I prefer depends on the rest of the bass...love the pao ferro on my p-bass, but think it would be odd on my naturl finished ash own built bass, which has a maple one....not sure about the "glossy" ric fingerboards yet though! (incidentally the new 4003 has a rosewood fingerboard, neck and body are maple)

As always this is a personal preference. The problem is have a direct comparison. I have two mid 70s basses, the only difference is the fretboard, one maple the other rosewood. There is a definite difference between the two. The maple is definitely snappier and has more attack. The rosewood is mellower and has more depth. I prefer maple for some things, but still use rosewood and ebony. It's not a myth!!

split 50/50, Fenders I love rosewood, it really adds warmth, but leaves all that nice growl there too , maple feels very nice, though.
