What's the difference between plain "maple", "birdseye maple", and "flame maple"?

Maple necks

Looking at them will do better than words ever could but for now.
Birdseye maple has a pattern to it of small ovals with a dark center in the grain that look similar to a birds eye ergo the name.
Flamed Maple is just what it sounds like. The neck has an alternating pattern on it made by flaming portions the neck with an open flame. The portions that are flamed are darker than the unflamed.

The structure, as well. Birdseyes and curl are types of figuring that occur in many species of wood. They occur frequently is Maple, and Warmoth happens to offer the choice of which grade for their Maples. There is debate over whether or not the structural differences contribute to the tone or stability of the wood, however.
