Nordie pickups did not work in it for me

I will have an unmodded MM5 in a few weeks and compare it to my modded...Fralins and passive tone roll off

What didn't work with the Nordstrands? New pickups and pre are on my list for my MMV. A passive tone rolloff would greatly benefit the MMV. It is such a BRIGHT bass.

Thanks for your reply very helpful man. Have a stingray 4, Im happy with its growl, hehe. What started me on this fender GAS was my squier vm jazz V. Im happy with its sound but just need a little bit more oomph. At the moment, I'm deciding between a AD V, MM V, and a American Standard V. I read the AS V has floppy B-string so iffy on that, but man, does it sound glorious.

Im leaning towards the mm5 since I read its designed as a 70' bass and vintage vibe, hoping for it to be closer to my squier, only better. The things that bother me are ugly pickguard, tho im starting to warm up to it. Ive also read some people not getting a usable tone. I find it a little on the bright side too, major issue for me. What I'm for are the neck and people saying its built great. I read reviews bout the AD V that its consistency is even worse from bass to bass.

Its easier for me to change the electronics vs rest since Im having it shipped here in Asia.

I already have a sadowsky preamp pedal so it can help out these basses if i want the sadowsky tone.

I'm pretty sure you can that Marcus vibe with a Marcus Miller 5.

I think the clip is a '75 RI jazz not the deluxe. And indeed with the 75 reissue you can get a MM type tone.

Thanks for this clip, just what I needed, in a band setting and no slapping. Got to hear tight bass playing as a bonus too. Them vocals ain't bad on the eyes either.

I'd call that a usable tone, I thought the brightness of the bass would translate to clankiness but you've shown otherwise. This seals the deal for me I guess. Thank you everyone for putting up with me and my questions. cheers!!

I own one of these puppies. I just love the richness and depth of the bass with it active. I play reggae and was sold on it from the moment i picked it up.
I don't play slap bass which is kind of sad, but this bass does well in reggae and i imagine in other genres as well. google Marcus Miller Live In the Sky on youtube you'll be blown away.

Nice! Would be great to hear you and the bass in action playing reggae. And dont worry bout not slapping, in youtube, these basses tend to get their owner's thumbs an erection and just thump away, Im just sick and tired of it. Would love to hear the different tones different people can come up with their fingers/music.

Would love if someone can do something like this for the Fender American Deluxe V vs Marcus Miller V.


Love the 2000 am std btw, wonder if the newer ones, 2010 sound like that.

Just went and tried a MM V and a Deluxe V. Both were very very nice indeed. The Deluxe won me over though on the feel of the neck, I just preferred it to the MM, fit my hand nicely with a slightly flatter feel and smoother top edge. So I've put down a deposit on that Deluxe!
