Well Im finally ready to upgrade to my cab/amp and have spent countless hours on these forums sifting thru the myriad of options and opinions. Using my ears as the ultimate judge of tone, I have spent weeks test-driving various combinations of amps and heads including, GK, Ampeg, MarkBass and Eden. . Ampegs sounded muddy to me
couldnt dial in the right blues tone. GK is great equipment but I am zeroing in on the MarkBass line as there were more options(e.g. filters) to dial in the final tone I was looking for. I played the MB800T thru a 410HR and was pretty happy with the tone produced. The filters really helped dial in the tone
although I couldnt really tell much difference with changing the tube knob setting. I play mostly blues
and some classic rock in small bar/frat settings so a full-stack is overkill
.in fact I didnt even try one and I dont want to lug the bee-ootch around to gigs. Anyway, my questions are as follows:
1: 4 ohm vs 8 ohm ..any recommendations? I want to get the full potential from the amp and really dont see myself lugging around any additional cabs on top of a 410 so adding more would not be an a option as I will never play large venues unless theres an upcoming stadium tour for old guys playing classic blues tunes ;=)
2: MB410HR or MB410HF- Unfortunately, I was only able to test drive the HR(rear ported) model as nobody around had an HF to test drive. Can you folks offer your opinions on both? I have never owned a rear-ported cab so Im unsure if placement/distance from wall is more of a critical factor for tone.
I appreciate any feedback/comments!
