I’m new to understanding bass cabinets and amps and could use some advice. I’ve got an old Markbass CMD 102p combo from 2007 and recently picked up a used 151P Traveler cab. When I tested the cab before buying, everything worked fine. But when I got it home and connected it to the combo with a SpeakON cable, no sound came out of the 151P.
I switched to a regular 1/4" guitar cable, and it worked perfectly. My main question is: do I need to use a SpeakON cable? Is it safe to keep using the 1/4" cable for connecting the extension cab?
For some context, I’ve tested the SpeakON cable with another cab, and it worked. I also used the CMD combo’s SpeakON output with a different cab, and that worked too. So, both the SpeakON cable and the combo seem fine.
One more question: does the type of SpeakON cable matter? If so, what would be the best kind to get? I picked mine up at Guitar Center without really knowing much about it.
Sorry if these are beginner questions, but I appreciate any advice or insights. Thank you!
I’ve attached some images for reference as well.
