Not even with the EQ?
I have been using an Ampeg micro VR as a DI, and want to have another color as well ... and maybe a cabinet for it, I mean for the MIII

Yes, you can use the EQ when you set the switch to post.
Personally, I prefer to set EQ at mixing console/software when recording...
Yes ... I do it that way ... but some amps have a thing on their eq/preamp ...
The thing is I am recording this project and it has several styles so I wanted more options, I also use the Thermionic Culture DI input and a UA610-B with the Micro VR's DI. All these give me sort of a classic sounding bass and was looking for a more modern sound option.
LMIII is pretty transparent in pre-EQ mode, not sure if that translates to "modern." I suppose transparent DI + modern sounding bass = "modern." If you like the sound of your bass and that amp through your cabs (with EQ flat and VPF/VLE off) then you can approximate that easily with the DI. It even has an attenuator which can be very helpful.
I have this dilemma right now ... The MIII or a countryman DI ... I know they are different things, but if any one had any experience with them, would be of much help
I have used LMII DI and line out for recording, and it had worked well. My rack mount EBS 1V2 is slightly more transparent and "open", but in the mix, the difference is subtle, unless the bass is very prominent and wide band.
The LMII EQ is definitely servicable to eq to track as well.

Yup. My band's first album years ago was my bass into a LMIII, DI into their desk (with a very nice compressor!) and it sounded really good.
Don’t get me wrong-LM 3 has been my main gigging amp for several years. It is transparent and reliable.
I just don’t feel tempted to use it for recording.
IMHO, you would be better off with high quality DI/preamp: RNDI, Avalon U5, Noble, Reddi, Khan, etc.
Why not try both into a free DAW like Garage Band or Reaper demo, and see what you like?
Around here is hard to find a countryman locally, I already have two DIs, which is the Thermionic Culture Vulture DI input and a 610-B Hi-z input, but I am very tempted with the countryman 85 and its speaker input to get the color of the preamp and amp, I am sort of doing that with an Aracom attenuator.
I like to record without the cab first, but at the same time I listen to the cab at low level, then when I have all overdubs and the take that I like then I do record the Cabinet, so is a Reamp thing.
...and about the countryman type 85 speaker input/thru connection, I was wondering how much wattage can that take. Maybe I am mistaken but I believe this takes the amplified signal and split it to the thru and DI out ...right ?
The data sheet says that it can take any amp...and that it will distort at 1700w at 8ohms...
Yes ... I was reading some info, I wrote to the dealer to have more info, and also about the impedance matching.
The Type 85 has a very high input impedance, so it doesn't present any load to an amp if you use it on the speaker output. But that won't sound any different than using the amp's line out -- both would have the 'color' of the preamp, and the amp portion doesn't really add anything to the sound, particularly at low levels.
