MarkBass Little Mark Tube 800

Different is no better as I said.

I get more low end from the Tube 800 than with the MK II. It has a fast attack and more warmth than the LMK II to my taste.

All MarkBass products are great and I will spend more time with the Tube 800 now !!! :-)

Very cool! It's great that MB has so many different voicings available for a variety of needs and tastes (and that's not even counting the MoMark system, that will eventually be almost infinite in tonal variety).

Enjoy... all great sounding stuff, each in their own way:bassist:

Ken, You need to buy the MoMark system complete with ALL the different components and give us a piece by piece review:cool:.

:D

God Bless, Ray

That is a dangerous idea to put into my head:eek::D

Well somebody's got to try everything out and know the real world differences. Think of it this way you'd be saving the average bassist hours of time and tons of money. That's such a noble task.:p

Others have been Knighted for lesser challenges.:D

You know what is cool though, seriously, is that eventually, Guitar Centers (at least the bigger ones) will have that big rack thing with every module and power amp in a switchable hookup so you can literally try every combination out before buying. That is slick as heck. It's like having 40 or 50 different MB heads in stock and on the floor all at once.

Nifty!

I was told that GC would have an entire room dedicated to the new MB Line of products at least here in Atlanta anyway. I just do not see all the expsense in this market right now. Will be cool if it comes around.

Well, let's get back on the Tube 800 topic now !!! :-)

I tried it last evening at my rehearsal and I cannot be more satisfied !!!

The head is really different from my former LMK II as it has more 'balls' and more low end. I like it a lot and fits my personal taste. My Lakland DJ 4 has never sounded better and defined. All members of the Band noticed the difference in tone, being warmer. The trick with this head is to adjust the Tube/solid state control knob at 50-50, this is where the real power of this machine will be noticed and its magic will surprise you.

The Mute switch is a great addition as well as the second input. The VLE and VPF are the best invention ever and could not liv without them !!!!! The EQ section is as always really sensitive and easy to get the tone you want.

I really dig the Tube 800. I ran the 410/210 HF combination and the extra headroom I got from the 800 watts helped as well, when needed.

Definitely a great amp, in my humble opinion.

That blended setting was my favorite also, although I felt it was more of a volume bump than anything else (with maybe a bit more mid response... I assuming due to the summing of the preamp signals).

I find your take that the LMTube800 is 'warmer' than the LMII interesting. I hear it totally, completely the opposite... much more solid state tone profile than what some describe as the almost 'clean tube' type tone of the LMII.

I guess the word 'warm' means different things to different people though.

+1 in that it wumps GOOD though. Lot's of ooomph coming out of that amp! Enjoy!

If you have to grab the volume knob and pull it out to mute it, why don't you just grab it and turn it down? Takes the same amount of effort, no?

While I don't really make use of mute switches myself, the logic is to have a hard 'off and on' that doesn't impact your volume setting on your master, and also mutes the front of house if you using a DI (which a master volume will not impact on most amps).

The problem having a mute on a push/pull on the master is that it's pretty easy to bounce your master setting around a bit. Again, that's even not much of a deal for me, since absolute volume can be controlled relatively easily with technique. But, for some, it's important.

Exactly, if you grab the Master knob, you'll probably end up (inadvertently) changing your volume settings anyway... Depending on how sensitive it is. The only upside, like you said, is that it also mutes FoH.

I'm not hating on Markbass; I actually like their sound. I just think it's a pretty silly way to implement the mute switch.

+1 That implementation and also the goofy 'one speakon/one 1/4" out' have to go on the next revision on the LM line IMO.

Luckily, the MoMark has modules available that actually have a mute button for those who like that function. Interestingly, the master push/pull mute on the F500 is much easier to use, due to the knob size/shape, and isn't too bad, versus the difficult to pull LMTube and LMTube800 design.

Well, I've been GASsing for a LMIII, but I just got a new (to me) amp. I'm pretty satisfied with it, so I may hold on to it until the LMIV comes around. We'll see, I suppose.

I think these issues are pretty trivial (like the goofy design of the power amp limiting indicator light on the Genz head, etc.). Small things that could be revised and improved (IMO), but having little to do with the primary performance of the amps (tone, reliability, volume).

I agree. I didn't mean that it was a deal breaker by any means... I can only afford to buy one bithcen amp at a time, though. So I'm trying to talk myself down from the GAS, no thanks to you. :atoz: :spit:
