MarkBass volume knob crackle noise normal?

It could be a lot of things. Guessing based in internet mythology and folklore is by far more often wrong than right ime.

VST is the MarkBass authorized service depot for the US, they will know how to fix it right without guessing.
Thank you, you're absolutely right as always. I'm not in the US but in the Netherlands so I'll see who to turn to here. But since it's second hand and there's no warranty anymore, I was hoping for an indication of the severeness and costs.

Then you should contact MarkBass directly and see who they recommend locally, or if they will service it at the factory

Update.
I had contact with the MB distributor and with a tech.
Since there's no warranty anymore it's useless sending it to the factory so I talked to a local tech and Markbass afficionado, he said it is DC leaking in the preamp but that these boards are built by computers and everything is so small and cramped that it is practically inserviceable and would take a lot of time (=money). When returned under warranty Markbass just puts in a whole new preamp and that's it. They only distribute these parts under warranty, which means there's nothing we can do to fix this for a reasonable price.
So now I'm wondering: if there's no problem while playing could it do any harm just using it as is?
