markbass

i think it's like most other markbass cabs except in 810 form...strong upper mids, not as strong on the very bottom. but i did like the sound overall. i didn't at first, but the second time i tried it i had a much more favorable opinion. i would buy one if i could get it on closeout for $400-500 like everyone else. the GC here wanted like $1400 for it.

Mark Bass catalog I've got says the 6x10 is 6 ohms... Hmmmmm?????

I imagine it'd be pretty good. All the other MB cabs I've heard in a band setting sound great. I tried one 4x10 in-store & didn't like it, but heard that same cab in a mates band later & WOW - it blew me away. I eventually bought the HR151 1x15"- & it's great too. Def. not hi-fi sounding but great in a band setting- which to me is what counts.
I'd STILL recommend a Bergantino NV610 or NV412 over the MB 810, but if ya HAVE to have 8 tens..... there's a fair few options,, Probly not many as LIGHT as Mark Bass tho :-) But the Berg NV cabs aint heavy & I threw some skid rails onto the rear of mine &............. roll & slide. E-Z!

agreed. not for wattage concerns but just because it's oddball. the extra wattage boost you get at 4 ohms vs 6 isn't very significant in the grand scheme of things.

It's just surprising, knowing that their heads run optimumly at 4 ohms, that they would make that cab 6 ohms.

It's all about economies of scale. They would have to order special drivers in order for that combination of speakers to reach 4 or 8 ohms. Just like Epifani with the 5.3 ohm 310UL, they probably don't sell enough of that cabinet to justify the higher cost of ordering a small back of 12ohm drivers or whatever. And, as Jimmy points out, the wattage drop from 4 to 6ohms is not a particular problem.

To the OP, the Markbass classic cabs are IMO KILLER, and the best sounding cabs they make.. punchy, light, loud, even (based on GC in store trials only... never had one on a gig).

I agree, it's not a huge difference.
But as far as the economics/special order....Ampeg has no trouble doing it.:hmm:

I tell YA If I had a choice of a MODERN AMPEG 810 or a Mark Bass 810CL I'd take the Mark Bass hands down. Maybe an old Ampeg I'd take over one but not the new one. & I LOVE Ampeg Tube amps- got 2 meself. But I'll have my Bergantino NV610 over both. :-)
After my old ampeg/CTS 8X10 got burnt in a garage fire, I went to get a new one but it sounded so dull and lifeless I took it back and bought an Eden 8 X 10 to try to find some good upper mid but then there where no bergs to try out back then round here.
:D
