I wouldn't have heard Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick if it wasn't for Marlowe. Nor would I know how to play it. I thankyou for that man. Wish you the best, everything will work out though.
Copyrights....meh....when someone goes around stopping cover bands from playing without stating this and that before the song or forkin over some cash, THAT'S when play a long guys should be removed from Youtube. Not cool.

Marlowe's site ROCKS! I LOVE his site and his videos. His licks of the day are a blast and he is a great player. I have to admit that I pretty much have been going to his site all along and not to youtube, but it still sucks to hear. Good luck Marlowe, I know I will still come to your site as long as you have it up.
Google are unbelievable but I guess the corporate lawyers have them spooked over copyright issues. I discovered Marlowe via a mate who knew I played the bass - he plays guitar. His YouTube channel is great and I've learned a lot from watching the vids - and discovered one or two tunes I'd never heard before - through him. He's a cool style and a really helpful to us students of the bottom end. This is always the way in which helpful people always get a hard time. Don't the record companies know that this is the way many of us DISCOVER great music? Who remembers seeing their friends, etc, copying cassette tapes ? I had a cousin (no longer with us - he died in January of cancer) who had the same attitude as Marlowe and shared tapes, albums, etc with me. I discovered the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, War and Heatwave through him. That's a life-long gift I'll always remember him for - these artistes' record companies have certainly had their money's worth from me over the years but my first exposure was on copied tapes. Someone ought to tell them that greed isn't good ............... that died in the '80's. Let support Marlowe on his own site instead ......
Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but I don't understand your motives or logic. Is scrolling down a few posts to find what you want really that hard?
Youtube was not designed to be a hosting site for commercially available music, and it is those vids that I can understand (knowing their shortsighted attitudes) the record companies wanting to be removed from the site.
But DK is a talented bassist and teacher whose clips have helped my bass playing enormously, and as illustrated in posts here who has probably led many people to buy music from neglected and forgotten artists. Shame on you, youtube, you tube.
+1000 - I personally have PURCHASED at least 10 CDs based upon tracks I heard for the first time on Marlowe's videos. Given how much music is NOT bought these days, music companies should be sending HIM royalty cheques!

+1 to the above quote. You took the words out of my mouth. If I had never seen Marlowe's play-a-long to "We Are Family", I would have never bought the song on iTunes... ever. He's introduced me to so many artists I needed to hear, Louis Johnson being one of them. Plus I bought the book on Slap Bass he recommends on his website. I've donated to his site in the past and will continue doing so.
If you're reading this, Marlowe, thanks for teaching me so much about funk and bass. If it wasn't for your YouTube videos, I would have never found your website.

Actually, clubs have to pay fees to ASCAP and BMI in order to have bands play covers in their establishments. Two examples:
(1) There was a tiny dive bar in Providence, RI that had singer/songwriter solo artist types playing covers and they didn't have the above mentioned license. They were fined $50,000 for the violation. I'm pretty sure they're closing down because of the fine. Don't ask me how anyone would have found out about this violation, but it really happened.
(2) There is another artist community-type club in Providence which does not allow artists to play any covers (even jazz standards) because they feel it's unethical to pay for such a license.
I'm pretty sure that in order to have a jukebox or DJ in your establishment, you have to pay for the same license.

The record business is in the toilet and this kind of nitpicking is why. The big 400 lb. gorilla going after the little guy once again because of desperation. Pathetic. I hope the record companies all die an agonizing death. Then maybe we can get control of music away from the idiot lawyers and accountants who run it now.

There is no reality in which he or his videos sucked. None at all. In fact, he's a universe away from the vacuous suckage of your post.
Clearly, you don't have the first clue about Youtube. The ENTIRE purpose of Youtube is for everday people to post videos about all kinds of things. It's not a primary venue for music videos.

Youku.com is in china I have seen a lot of mma stuff that was banned from youtube, etc. on there show up in google search. Obviously it is in chinese but is a big site if you can figure out how to post there...

I just checked my subscriptions, and couldn't find Marlowe. I figured I'd come here to see what happened.
I'm really starting to really despise the record labels and YouTube. Before I was only annoyed.
Thank you for the inspiration, Marlowe. I have spent many a night in the basement, bass in hand, laptop on amp, trying to cop your lines. Keep the Faith, Brother.

He was THE BEST person on youtube for learning a funky lick and or bassline from all the great bass songs.
As far as im concerned he was promoting their music for free since i actually went out and bought the music to the lines i had heard and learned. I'm going to refrain from that in the future and just steal the music.
Anyways i hope the lawyers and company heads involved has Ms Karma knock on their door with an oddly shaped fruit and stick it somewhere just as odd.
