Marshall JCM 800 1 x 18 bass cabinet - help!

I'm in the USA. I have a JCM 800 4x12 and a JCM800 2x15. Don't see these often here in the US and localy these are the only two I have seen ! I would think a 1x18 be a rare bird even in the UK.

Hi.

IME any Marshall bass cabs are relatively rare, but I did have the exact same JCM 800 cabs back in the late 80's as godofthunder59. Not very efficient cabs and not very deep, but pure classic rock tone.

Where do You live? It's after all the supply and the demand and the decisions of the retailers which dictate the rareness of particular items in particular regions.

It is a beast, we used to call it 'Big boy' when i first got it but I was in my teens! It has a very cool retro vibe, the grill is a kind of golden colour and the cab is covered in black vinyl (I think it’s vinyl but I could be wrong). It’s currently tucked away in storage but if I can get a picture of it I’ll post it. It does sound great but I stopped using it as it’s a bitch to transport. I live in England by the way.

I'd imagine that they're quite plentiful in England, compared to the rest of the world at least ;).

The 118 is not necessarily the most common one, but the 412 bass cabs have been in favour of the hard rock guitarists right from the beginning. They produce quite different guitar sound compared with the standard 412 guitar cabs.

Your cab should have a cast frame Celestion in it.

I'd imagine that it's as deep as the 215, like 15cm deeper than the standard cab.

The gold tinted grille cloth sounds a bit strange, AFAIK all of them came with the regular JCM800 black woven grille cloths. Perhaps it was a special order, or somebody replaced it.
IIRC Marshall had quite a lot options for the bands they endorsed. Some of the options were offered to the regular folks too.

Dan, yours is a Valvestate MkII made from 1993-1999.

I might have tested that driver back in about 1971 when I worked at the old Foxhall rd plant its pre power cell and sidewinder so it must be well old.
The original basket weave grill cloth cabs are usually 1968+:

Speaker lasted quite well I see, I could tell you my Marshall Tech MZ code number but then I would have to kill you, so I wont.

It's a model 1580 IBS w/ a Celestion. Made from 1985 until who knows when. You don't see them often though they didn't used to sell for much a few years ago.

It would help greatly if you would fill out your profile if you are going to be asking questions. It lets us see some background on you to refer to.

I saw one of those 1x18s locally for sale. I couldn't find much, but the guy who owned it said that it was just from their early 80s bass line in coordination with thye 800 series of the same era, rare only because they weren't very popular and Marshall discontinued them.
