MARSHALL MB450H

Hi all:

I've noted in searches that a few of you own the Marshall MB450H head, yet I've found no clear descriptions of how this amp sounds, performs, and it's general reliabilty.

I'm shopping for a 2-ohm head, and naturally, money IS a consideration -- and this inexpensive, amply-powered, tube hybrid seems like a good candidate if it works and sounds as good as it looks.

Can you owners pipe up and give the straight lowdown on this unit?

Well, I think this is an amazing head, for the price. The Classic(tube) channel, is really warm, and you can get a good growl out of it. with the boost feature you can get a heavy fuzz. Bassically the classic channel is pure sex.

Although the modern (solid state) channel isn't that good at all, unless you like a mid scooped sound. I don't like the mid eq. instead of having a high and low mid, you select what mid frequency you want, then you can boost or cut that frequeny. I have found that if you boost anything abouve 500Hz too much it sounds horrible.

I have found the best Eq for me is blending the two channels, on solid state: bass at 2o'clock, selecting 900Hz and have it about 2 mm off flat, treble at 2 o'clock. Tube: gain 1:30 bass 1:30, mid voice 2 and at 1 o'clock treble at 2:30. blending with the knob at about 2:30ish.

This thing is really loud, When running at 2.62 ohms (4ohm &8 ohm 410's) I had it running with the master on 1.5, playing with a marshall half stack running on half.

I would 100% reccomend this head, But maybe with a better quallity (Ampeg) cab.

I registered to this site to look for a good bass head for my brother. He owns an swr 4X10, working mans edition. It is rated 400 watts @ 8 ohms. It has a 6db pad on it. Would this amp still be loud enough for his cab?
