I own one and like it a lot. Especially with my P-bass. If you like the sound of your bass, you will like the amp as well. It's got a great basic sound but it doesn't offer very much tone shaping when turning the knobs, that's for sure. The EQ is passive and a bit limited. BUT it offers a whole lot better tone variation depending on your attack, how you pluck the string, where you pluck the string etc. compared to other amps I've tried. The amp responds very good to your playing.
Before the VBA400 I played through a Carvin RB600. It had a lot of tone shaping options, but to me none of them sounded good.
And yes, it's VERY powerful.
