I'm telling you: call it the BYOPREAMP and they will come. I know so many people who are going with either the Felix or the headway and would love a simple powered mini speaker. This thing ( in its optimum range ) is killing. if there was internal power so that you had one cord To the wall and a instrument cable in from what ever preamp....

Couple a too tree weeks on and I am digging this cab more then ever. I did an expirement the other day on a loud trio gig: I brought both the 46 and the 16. I wanted to see what sounded better the 16 pushed as hard as it could go or the 46 just floating along. Honestly I dug the 16 better. I liked the way it made the upright sound I liked the way it deals with the mic (better feedback control) I liked the way there was a limit to how loud I could go making the keyboard player turn down rather them getting up under him too close. I'm going to keep the 46 and hook it up to my stereo with an old Dynaco tube amp ( mostly because the resale on the 46 is about Zed.)

The idea of only having to take a 1/6 cabinet to most gigs, is very appealing, if it had a poweramp, so much the better.

I didn't really pay enough attention to the discussion about how the vortex wave acts with these speakers. Essentially they sound different, way better ... As I understand it the sound coming out the port matches or adds to it at a slight delay but it needs to be fairly energized to work. With the 16 that is happening on a scale that is just right for upright. I don't play much electric but it seems like these bigger versions like the 46 and bigger are really really loud. The 16 gets pretty loud for upright in most contexts and when it is at its optimum it just sounds great. I really think this should be the main upright cab in the line. And the schlep factor is utterly sick. Two of them would easily cover any gig I ever do

I was wrong.... It was one of those unexplained phenomena where what with all the hook ups somehow the bass response on the little cab sounded like only the tweeter was working... I switched back to the 46 ( don't mean to make it sound like I don't love this cab too it is a powerhouse and sweeeet) but when I came back and plugged it in again everything was fine. I call it the too many knobs in the signal chain problem and that is the reason I want the Felix into a powered speaker or power amp without all the chance for problems.

Got a price in mind? I probably won't be first in that I am just paying for the Contrabassetto to be shipped from Rio but t will be first up after that. If someone else jumps on it first great, but please let know about the form factor and what front end you are using.
Would the ice module power 2 of them Mike?

Been playing the last few gigs with the 16 on a PA stand and just the Remic Red. Just taking the bleed with it, being careful about the feedback (I am really aiming to get my hands on a Felix soon so I can mute with my foot whenever I feel the need to turn the bass toward the amp) But with the 16 up high and cranked enough to get the port sound (it's what makes this speaker 3 dimensional) but below feedback....very excellent sound so far. If I didnt have to have the amp strapped to the 16 but had it internal (Mike did you finish the first one yet?) I'd be really happy....

Funny. I was just researching MAS cabs after learning about them recently. And I was thinking "I wonder why they don't make a small self-powered cab that I could use with the pre of my choosing?" Then I came back over to TB and saw this thread unfolding!

I would REALLY be interested in a powered 16 for use with my upright for pit orchestra gigs and small "coffee house" gigs. I'm waiting for the ALiX to ship (single channel version of the FELiX). That, with a self-powered 16 sounds like a dream rig!
