master volume issue?

My amp recently lost its maximum volume. I have to turn it almost all the way up just to here a somewhat decent volume but even then it becomes distorted when I play certain notes. I've tried other heads on my cabinets and they work fine and I've tried other bases as well. I think it might be the fuse but I'm not sure I've never encountered this problem before. Can anyone give me an idea of what could be wrong?

That is a VERY interesting problem. It almost sounds like voltage starvation, which would point to the power supply. I think the 1001 power supplies are variable-voltage, so I'm wondering if the power supply isn't "seeing" the need for a higher rail voltage when needed, and is stuck at its low-voltage setting. This is TOTAL CONJECTURE on my part.

The fan in that unit was working ok, right?

Well, anyway, I think it's time to send it in to GK. It'll cost some money but you'll get it back in A+ condition.

"Last thing I ever buy" indeed, LOL!!

BDDI+QSC was the last thing I ever bought.

Then the MB200 was the last thing I ever bought.

Then the BL600 was the last thing I ever bought.

Now the BX250 has become the last thing I ever bought.

Anyway, to keep this relevant to the thread, you get that 1001 back from GK and save the repair ticket, and you should be able to get top dollar for it used since it's been 100% repaired, updated, checked out, and blessed by the guys who know what makes those things tick.
