Master volume on a Jazz bass

Would using a volume pedal solve your problem? You could leave the knobs alone and just raise or lower the volume with the pedal. I had the same problem you described and solved it to some extent by using a vol pedal. Once you find the perfect blend you don't want to mess with it. I too like individual controls for each pickup. I like to hear the neck pickup mostly with just a touch or more of the bridge pickup that helps to cut through. I recently switched from MTD dual pick up basses to MTD basses w/ a single MM pup because the pickup is in such a sweet spot for sound and use as a thumbrest and I don't have to worry about the blending issue. Good luck

How could I have never thought of this...
I have never used anyhting on the floor before, alway just plugged straight in...

But this is an option I will try in rehersal tonight.

Still would like to have the control on the bass, but.......

i did put a switch in and am very pleaset with just one master volume knob

...I want those strings.

Remember, any extra pots you install will effect your tone slightly. Using good pots will help cut down on that, though.

I plan to install a Master volume, neck volume, tone config in a bass. I noticed I never turned down the bridge pickup.

The stacked pots is also a good option.

+1 to Funkboy.
I have a Morley Vol/Wah that I use w/ my Jazz basses. Not only can I mute quickly and not disturb the delicate balance (and also frustrate the soundman), but I can get some magestic volume swells! If I want to get really funky I'll switch the pedal into Wah mode and really turn heads.
But I must admit that if I were to go active on these basses, I'd go Vol/Blend/Tone.

Been playing a P for the last 5 or so years and got used to just reaching down and turning the bass off with the single volume.

Recently got a bass with a JP pickup configuration...A Jazz bass with a p pickup.

I have found a perfect blend point between the two pickups and don't want to change it every time I put the bass down or simply do a volume fade, besides, doing this with dual volumes is a pain.

Thanks in advance!

Thats why I hate the Vol/Vol setups. A good repair shop can install a master volume for you 123.
