Hey Guys, first post here on TB and looking for some help.
My main rig is an Ampeg v4b(newer) played through an 8x10 Ampeg svt. I recently purchased a pf115 he to have for practice at home and to have a more portable cab to be able to jam with friends.
When I got the cab I used my usual settings with the master volume turned down a bit from what I usually use. My settings are(o’clock):
Gain-1230
Bass-1230
Mid-130
Treble-1130
Master-9
No ultra high/low, mid selector at 800 HZ(middle)
Cab is plugged into the 8ohm output.
My question is:
Is my speaker cone damaged? I’m getting a lot of papery rattling and it sounds like poopie. Sometimes when I turn it on and play, it sounds great for awhile than starts acting up again. Is there to much power going into it?
I’m thinking of adding a fender rumble 115 in addition to the Ampeg, but I’m not sure if I have a blown speaker in the Ampeg, or my amp is just too powerful for it. I feel like I should be able to play through the cab with the gain at half and the master at half without issue. After calling Ampeg and describing the issue, they said playing gain at half and master at half would be starting to push it, but I’m playing at a much lower volume and having issues.
So,
1. Is my speaker damaged?
2. Would adding that fender rumble 115 help?
Thanks!
