Double Bass Matching my Phil Jones bp-400 head with a cab

Hello,
I am looking to match my amp with a cab.. My amp is 200 watts at 8 ohms.
Should i get a 200 watts cab or more ?
Does it make sense to have a 300 or 400 watts cab with a head than only gives it 200 watts ?
I am currently using my NS Design and Kay with the BP-400 through a MarkBass 400 watts amp. Phil Jones has a charming lightweight 27 and I wonder if it makes sense.

What you'll need is a very efficent cabinet. Are you using either the Markbass 400 or a Phil Jones BP-400 or will you only use the BP-400?
Euphonic Audio builts very efficent cabinets, so do other makers. What Phil Jones cabinet are you interested in? The Cab 27 looks very nice,
and I would assume that Phil matched those cabinets to his heads. Still for me 200 watts is not a lot of power these days.

A few weeks in to gigging with the Cab 27, loving it. I'm using a Realist pickup and TE Elf amp. It's beating my GK MB112ii for DB so far. Haven't tried any other PJ cabs but I do really like this one.

In a perfect world, you want an amp that is more powerful than the cab.. about 20%+ more powerful is a good rule of thumb... so a 400w cab would have a 500w amp) Generally what blows a speaker is clipping the amp (due to lack of power (overhead)) .. not over excursion of a speaker due to too much power... it’s the square wave of clipping that melts a voice coil...

I am still hesitating between a Phil Jones 27, a Phil Jones C4 and maybe a Markbass 112...

I would love to hear the Cab 27. 200 watts should be plenty. I've been gigging with a 250 watt PJB amp for years.

Me too ! The 5 inches have a very impressive growl and a transparency, the 7 inches speakers must have some of that vibe. Compared to my Markbass 210, it is obviously clearer. I should do a Youtube video to share that.
