Matchless Thunderman?

hey im looking for a small tube head and came across this thang. Is 45watt loud enough? What size venues would you play? And what is its soldid state equivilent in volume?

It really depends on your cab. How many speakers and how efficient?

Revsound makes a 103db 1x15.

Solid state equivalent would be 45w.
I s'pose. . 'Sorta equal' in "ooomph" might be. .. a 100w. . If that's at all a reasonable comparison.
45w wouldn't be enough for my needs. ..tis for some tho.
Volume requirements are VERY subjective I've found.
Get a Super Bassman and be done with it.

Im running a 4x10 and a 2x10 depending on thr venue. The superbassman would be amazing but its so big haha

How about a Quilter Bass Block 800? About $600. It's not tube but it has reported good eq.

And what does a quilter have to do with "looking for a small tube amp"? I would ask.

I won't play with musicians that my 45 watt tube amps are not enough and get buried by.

That said, ideally larger clubs/venues means FOH.
DI on speaker out or microphone send to the board.
No volume increase required, let the FOH do the heavy lifting.

No FOH add a second cab.
My first rule there is more speaker Not more volume.

Big venue or outdoors: see above.

Same scenario, No FOH, add second rig and go composite with A/B/both switcher. Like a Lehle.

Whole new world of options therein.


I get clean tone through the Schroeder.
Put a Lehle volume pedal on the Thunderman and get grit and snot with the Matchless.
