Matt Ramsey testing a Marco Bass

The whole “all slap, all the time” gets old very quickly if you’ve ever spent more than 10 minutes in a music store.

I’m sure this guy is great, but…

Dude is sounding and looking like Fred Hammond 2.0.

Thanks for posting something I can actually see Doc. ;)

I know Marco was pretty excited about seeing Matt Ramsey playing one of his basses on some big award show last year, but as often happens I had to do a fair amount of work to school myself on his body of work. Now I guess I better find out who "your" Fred Hammon is! :roflmao:

Disclaimer: Marco Cortes used to be a client of mine before I retired from the musical electronics business, although I don't remember doing any work for Mr. Ramsey's Marco Basses.

It is hard to imagine a more important figure in Urban Gospel than Fred Hammond over the last 45 or so years. He has been a huge influence as a singer, writer, producer, and bassist.

So I saw just now, but I literally know nothing of that genre except what Marco occasionally taught me, which lead to some deep level embarrassment and hilarity at Marco's NAMM booth when I worked there. The Fred Hammon I am familiar with made Dark Star pickups. ;)

Having owned a Marco I can tell you they are not that great, overpriced....the 34.5 scale does nothing to the B string, they are pretty much floppy and not very usable! Nothing like a sadowsky or rosoce B strings....and dont get me going on the quality, you can tell they are not up to par with other custom luthiers!
I think they are overpriced by about $1000......thats my own experience......

No bass is for everyone either. I have heard many rave over Marco basses too.

Matt is an absolute gem of a person. I remember him playing in church when he was probably 13 or 14 years old. An absolute beast of a player back then and so humble about it. It always makes me happy to see guys like him making a name for themselves. Thanks for sharing this!
