Maxitone Violin Bass? - What is this?

Hey, I came across this used bass locally: Musical Instruments /Guitars Classifieds for Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming | ksl.com

I have never heard of this brand and the guy selling it doesn't know anything about it, either. It's pretty dang cheap but if it's not really playable I'd rather keep even that little bit of cash.

The only thing I could find on google was this: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] but that tells nothing about its value, playability ,etc.

If anyone knows about this, your insight would be appreciated.

What a strange coincidence! My friend has the exact same bass with a different name on it. We traced its lineage to the Matsumoku factory in Japan, which was the best of the Japanese factories in the early seventies. His bass was labeled Black Jack.

Definitely worth the money.

Maxi-Tone was a part of Ibanez - they were not Matsumoku.

Reputably are good instruments, and collectable among Ibanez collectors.
