MaxxBass® - anybody using it?

It's GREAT in the studio. Not sure how (and I mean the ease of setting up some sort of DSP system for live use) worth it it would be for a live situation.
The plug-in synthesizes overtones to create the illusion of a stronger fundamental. AWESOME on Kick and Bass in the studio.

MaxxBass is all over the place. In movie soundtracks, to tv shows. Ever hear more bass than you expect? That's it.
New Peavey IPR DSP series amps have the lock on Maxxbass
They are the only amps to provide it. They will be big winners.

The MaxxBass plug-in is $200 - it's not cheap.
Waves has been very careful to market MaxxBass, and this new Peavey arrangement will be killer. The bass playing and FOH will eat it up. No more huge subs to haul around.
For a typical bass cabinet, you need something with good upper bass and mid dispersion to get the Maxx out of it. Most bass cabinets lack in the mids as people have been trying to squeeze out close to fundamental bass. In other words, you're typical bass cabinet may not bring out the best in MaxxBass.
I use pro level PA cabinets. JBL and pro companies will publish polar dispersion charts. Because in the real world dispersion is important.
There apparently is some misconceptions about MaxxBass that people will have to get over. It is a tool for live use also.

Yep a lot of guys I know use it all the time, especially if they didn't track something themselves and need to compensate for a less than stellar recording.

That old story of "The bass is too lound - turn it down" and you can't hear yourself.
Because MaxxBass means you're not actually putting out sound where the room booms at, you not going to get any room boom.
And like I said, if you use a cab with good mid disperson, you're going to be able to hear yourself better no matter where you stand.
