70s 8x10 for 275. Has the vinyl removed but I don't think that will be a big deal.

SVT classic rigs but may be out of my budget.

Can anyone assess if these are worth it? Also how good is the Ampeg CL? What does it mean when the head puts out 300w and the cabinet has 800, does it put out 800 or 300?

#1 isn't such a good deal. Replacement drivers and a crappy box... I bought mine with 4 totaled drivers, 4 repairable drivers, and torn tolex for $80.

#2 and #3: The bloody heads themselves sell for $1300+ around these parts. I'm jealous. I'd jump on #2 and offer $700-$800 for the head. I have a cab already. ;)

Good call. I'm thinking they probably won't budge more than 100 and 200 dollars respectively. I'll always take the equal but ugly duckling to save a few bucks. I don't care too much about image. ;)

810. And no, it's not pointless. Otherwise the SVT/810 wouldn't have been the number one most professionally used bass amp for 40 years.

And you can find knobs on Ebay or at www.fliptops.net .

Doubt it, the dude in Waltham with the busted 8x10 has had it up for like 3 weeks. I'd say go for option #2, buy replacement parts/speaker on www.fliptops.net.

300 watts out of an 8x10 is better than 300 out of a 4x10. Wattage the cab handles is irrelevant as long as it's higher than what the cab puts out. And as far as the weight, it's really not that bad to move around, the hardest part is getting the head on top of the cab.

how so because I thought moving it would be the toughest part? Also I noticed between #2 and 3 there are minute differences in the heads mainly the logs and I think some knobs and such are different on one. Is there anything I should be forewarned about these items in particular like QC (obviously not for an older ampeg but you get the idea) etc.

why is an 8x10 not hard to move around? Also what knobs on fliptop would I use? Also can this amp get the treble and mids well?

The head has nice heavy duty side handles which make it fairly easy to carry, aside from the weight. I actually fell like my SVT-CL was easier to carry than my V4 (about 25 lbs lighter) because the V4 only has a top handle. The cab has casters and a towel bar to roll it around, all you have to do is unload it and roll it away, just look out for stairs. The differences between the heads is basically just age, which you can tell by the graphics. Since they're both used, they may both need tubes, but they're both long enough away from needing any major work done (ie caps). I wouldn't worry so much about QC on these, they've both used and a few years old so any major issues that would be QC related would have been noticed at this point.

Just kidding...actually in the long run, it makes no difference what you play. As long as you're happy with it and you have enough juice to work with your band, you'll be fine. But I came back to the SVT this year after 11 years, and I actually look forward to lugging this massive piece of furniture. Most of the time...I do have a small amp for when I don't ;)

I'll take a stab at this - as long as you're not using a car for your gig transport, the only time an 810 is difficult in any way is on stairs... and even in the case of stairs, they're really not a big deal if you have a helper... I drive an F150, and an 810 is actually easier to load up into my truck than the Mesa PH610 I normally gig with...
