Me Want!

Is it wrong to want every bass guitar known to man? I think I have a disease (G.A.S). Every time I purchase a bass I think to myself, this is it, no more. But then I get bored, and soon find myself browsing the internet again. Don't get me wrong, I have the luxury to afford the stuff but its all consuming sometimes. I think I'm an addict. Anyone else ever have it this severe? I vote that there should be a Bassaholic Anonymous and I can be its president.
:hiding:

I do a lot of window shopping. But I only really want 5 basses, and I currently have two of them.

Same with amps. I have my main rig that I'm happy with and am not even looking. I hate my practice amp, and know what I want to replace it with. I keep window shopping, but nothing has changed my mind.

As far as pedals are concerned..... I do have a bit of a problem there. However, I do have a narrower list now than I did a year ago. There aren't too many pedals left on my "want" list.

You need to diversify your hobbies and wants. Whenever I get satisfied with bass stuff, or at least I want to take a break from the rat race of GAS, I focus my attention and any expendable income at the moment towards guns and ammo.

I've bought eight basses since last March. I still have all eight and I'm always wondering what's coming next. I don't consider it a problem yet. I have at least 60 pairs of heels and still like getting new shoes. And now my G.A.S. is expanding to include sound equipment of all kinds, too.

Wow, just come right out with why don't you.Thats the way to open up! Even though most of the basses I buy are on the cheaper side (except SR1200e) it still adds up quick if you know what I mean (6 in 2011). I enjoy finding old cheap basses. I like to then refinish them and make it my own.

I have been an addict since I built my studio, you think basses are bad, think about all the different mics, preamps, converters there are out there that you just HAVE TO HAVE....I went through that for a long time, since I got into bass it is not that bad! Most of that stuff cost more than bass gear, single channel Neve preamp..OMG....

Pretty much almost every bass player (and TB member) currently is or has suffered from G.A.S and if they say they don't or never have 9/10 they are lying :smug:. I am always telling myself I am done buying and even looking, then I go surf the classifieds...d'oh.

I have gone heavy buying and selling basses over the last 5 years or so (look at my profile.... Friggin scary!).

In any case, I started with Musicman, Fender and Gibson, bought basically every bass known to man (Roscoe, Dingwall, MTD, Sadowsky, etc.)..... and now I am back to..... Musicman, Fender and Gibson. Nothing to do with $$$.... I just like Musicman, Fender and Gibson tones the best.

I had 17 basses at one point. Made me realize that for me, that was stupid..... So now I only have 8.:hiding::D

GAS is a frightening phenomenon. I started this year off by buying a new P-bass (copy). I was good for about a month. Then I got my 60th Ann P.
I was done. Even told the wife I was.

Then it hit again earlier this week. The new bass will be here tomorrow. I told the wife that I'll stop when she stop shoe shopping. I don't have to worry about that ever happening. Lol.

It never ends. If it does, that's the time to worry.

This is hilarious and scary at the same time. It could be worse I suppose. I could be going out every night, partying, buying drugs, gambling, ect. But I'd rather buy and sale bass gear! Makes me feel somewhat better that I'm not alone in this.

Add me to the club. Eight axes bought in one year, with three more "on comission" (down payment paid). Just when I think I'm set, I start browsing the "classifieds" section. Damn it!, I said "classifieds", there I go again!

Of course. I'm pretty much what you see is what you get. So what ones do you have? Will you show them off? Pics perhaps? You show me yours and I'll show you mine??? ;););)

I have 9 basses and thought I was all set with the GAS attack....didn't really need any more basses. I have some very nice ones and why would I want anything else..................until I saw a lonely Kay URB standing forlornly in the corner of a small music store. CRAP! Out came the wallet. BTW, a URB doesn't fit very well in a Jeep Wrangler.

Buying an expensive bass cured me. I've always bought cheap instruments, but have always GAS'd for something better. I finally bit the bullet and bought a Dingwall ABZ used on the classifieds here. It's honestly spoiled my desire for cheap basses... while I love some of them, this bass has taught me that saving and getting what I really want can be rewarding. It didn't require any work, any effort, nothing to be playable and amazing sounding.

I have 20+ instruments... 4 guitars (one in pieces), 1 mandolin, the rest basses. I can see myself now getting down to 9. From a utilitarian standpoint, I only really need three of the basses (Dingwall, fretless, U-bass), but there are others that I'm keeping for sentimental reasons (ones a rare color, one is my first project undertaken with my wife, and the T-40 is the one I've had the longest).

GAS is a killer. I think I've cured mine... at least for basses, now I'm thinking of upgrading my amp head.
