Meat Loaf RIP

The facts aren’t in yet but his cause of death may have been Covid-related. He was reportedly an anti-vaxxer. Very sad.

I was never a huge fan at the time, but like many artists I turned my nose up at when I was young, I now have a greater appreciation for what he did. And you can't argue with success.

Todd Rundgren produced Bat Out of Hell, and played guitar on the album--including that great opening lick on Paradise. Other band members included Kasim Sultan on bass, Max Weinberg on drums, and Edgar Winter on sax. Also Ellen Foley--who sang the female lead on Paradise (and later sang on the Clash's Sandinista album). You're gonna make great music when you surround yourself with talent like that.

I was going to post about the Todd connection if nobody else did (but YOU did).

The project was pretty much never going to happen. Until Todd willed it into life. And of course, it was great for Todd; he was able to finance his own projects, including his video studio, because of the profits from “Bat.”

The BIG guy was lost to Covid-19. So sad. I saw him early in the Bat Out Of Hell tour, with Ellen Foley. He was physically HUGE at that time. Every song or two he'd grab a mask at the rear of the stage and huff some O2. He sweated like it was raining. I did not even want to attend, but the wife dragged me. I left a real fan. GREAT performer! Sold 100M albums. Geez! Rest in Peace.

Technically speaking, to the best of my recall, that would be Jim Steinman (who died last spring) doing the writing for that album/time period. Even though his name is like 1/4 the size on the album cover.

Watching the last video from meatloaf talking about all the health issues and surgeries he had lined up. The video in the 2nd half where he is talking about how painful it is to just shower, good lord.

Meat was not in good shape. RIP. That pain sounded awful from these videos. He still was in good spirits too.

That's really sad, and hard to watch. My 71-year-old aches and pains don't seem so bad right now...

Howard Stern, At War With Anti-Vax Set, Asks Meat Loaf's Family to Advocate for Covid Vaccine

Howard Stern is urging Meat Loaf’s family to advocate for people to be vaccinated against Covid-19 following the singer’s death on Jan. 20, as Variety reports.

While Meat Loaf’s cause of death has not been confirmed, TMZ reported that he had been “seriously ill with Covid.” The singer had also previously spoken out against pandemic safety protocols. It’s unclear whether he was vaccinated.
