Here's the colour I will finish the body in - looks good w/a black pg and although not a Jolana shade, it looks suitably '80s.

A surprise serendipitous occurrence of the two Jolana's is that the (non-original) tuners on the '80s Discobass are the very same that originally came on a '70s vintage "Rubin" hollow-body. There wasn't close-up pics of them on the art-bass, but there's a chance the ones on it will fit on the Discobass, even if not original. (they are not closed-back, probably 'upgraded' generic Y tuners)

Both of those disco bass necks have some really tight and straight grained maple :thumbsup:

Thanks to @Retro for sending me these pic/spec-sheets on the Discobass, Kolor and Rubin hollow-body basses - looks like mine is not a Rubin, but instead it's a Kolor bass. (I like that name!) Also nice to see the lucite pg which I could fabricate for original sake and it wouldn't obstruct the fine artwork.

Looks like the entire length of the Kolor bass is like a Fender J at just over 46" and the Rubin is just over 45". Don't know what mV stands for but the Kolor bass is 140mV and the Rubin is 80mV, so could this possibly be scale length? Otherwise the other #'s are the same. Maybe the Kolor bass is medium scale and the Rubin short-scale. We'll see once it arrives.

Cool gold paint hs 'name' - Kolorbas - this is a '72 and has different tuners but judging by the way the hs edge at the pegs has been shaved, they may be guitar tuners someone replaced the originals with. Not a clear pic so a bit fuzzy on details. Possibly only the pegs were replaced.

Found another ws with pics of a Kolorbas in detail - looks like some had the same closed back tuners as the Discobass. And a "kolorful" schematic of the Kolorbas electronics.

That's cool that you linked that site, because my Disco was actually part of his collection! (in Moscow, I believe) It's the red one just under the blue Kolor bass. It went to St. Petersburg, then to Nashville, and I got it from the guy who imported it. Small world!

Just for reference, I have boxes full of probably hundreds of that type of tuners, and all kinds of loose import tuner parts. They are part of the debris from Mike Lipe's estate and shop cleanup. Early in his career, Mike must have worked on lots of '60's import instruments. Replaced the tuners and tossed the old ones into drawers in his workbench. I literally emptied the drawers into boxes. I've got them here in my shop, to be given away to anyone who can use them for a restoration or repair.
