Memorial Day! Any Veterans on TB?

I get the distinction. Maybe we should start another thread on veterans day. In the meantime my appreciation and thanks to those who have lost loved ones. Those people also paid a price.
Even though this was not the day for that I still appreciate those who served our country in armed conflict. Those who returned from those conflicts still paid a heavy price serving our country. Thanks

USAF 1977-1980. Titan II ICBM base. Fortunately we avoided having the button pushed.

I thought about my service on the drive home from playing at church on Sunday. Rolling Thunder was in town, got flipped off by one guy who apparently was trying to bring the Beltway to a crawl, farther up the road another guy on a touring Harley tried to drive me off the road. Funny because they both had women on the backs of their bikes and I was in a car. No, thank you for your service.
:hmm:

I hate the game, but recognize and respect the players doing their jobs (dead and alive.) These past few months I've been watching nothing but WW2 documentaries on Netflix, Hulu (free), & YouTube. Tragic and so fascinating. It's been giving me new perspective and appreciation for that older generation and what their and their families lives were like .... worldwide!

I suppose I should have said secular tyranny then!!

I believe you may be confusing tyranny and sedition.

Tyranny needs no prefix. Tyranny is tyranny no matter the colors under which it operates.

Fanaticism is tryannical by default so trying to seperate one sub group from another serves no real purpose.

Simple Definition of tyranny

cruel and unfair treatment by people with power over others.

Ah, so you should have said tyranny instead of religious fanaticism. :woot:

Not my day, but yes - '69 thru '92. Third generation military - on both sides of the family...

Actually no. Religious fanatics are the only tyrants with which negoiation is impossible because we heritics have nothing they want but our death. Nationalist or populist fanatics can be reasoned with, often even bought cheap, but not so for religious fanatics. They are the only group besides lovers of freedom willing to die for their cause without question because those who oppose them have nothing either group wants.

Obvious historical exceptions notwithstanding...

Of course, exceptions are often used to illustrate the norm. The exception which proves the rule and all that.

Now which religious fanatics came to the negotating table and worked with their oppoonents to resolve the issues they were employing violence and tyranny to advance?

Since it was asked, even incorrectly, I was in the US Navy from 77 to 83. Submariner. USS John C Calhoun, SSBN 630 blue crew from 79-83.
To Brad Johnson, I was the underwater version of you, missile fire control tech for the Poseidon C3 and then Trident C4 nuclear missiles. Some people don't get it when I laugh when they talk about how important their job is. Try being part of the team that could end the world (literally) within minutes. Hard to take much serious after doing that.

But yeah, I want to scream at people who don't understand what Memorial Day is all about.
