Anyone have peoblems with Mesa speakers blowing? I might have my 400+ kranked to high for the speakers to handle. I figured 800watt cab could handle the head. I tend to play on 8 at the house and 3 or 4 at a show.

Need more info. How old are the speakers? I tend to replace my speakers about every three or four years, because I tend to abuse them, even though I never exceed their ratings.

Then things like storage, humidity (or lack thereof) effect the speaker's life too.

No speaker lasts forever, unless you baby it, or don't use it.

I burn through speakers just like tubes and strings. But that's just me.

Yes. I've had a 15 in a 1x15 blow, so I got the 2x15, and one of the drivers blew as well. I had the Mesa's in 2003-4, so it's possible the drivers are different now.

My thoughts on your problem is that you aren't changing your EQ as you go up in volume. If you crank your bass frequencies at low volume to feel them, then don't dial them down as you turn up your volume, your drivers are being driven with too much power to to the lows...and you're exceeding the mechanical limits of the drivers.

You have two options: replace with the Mesa drivers and be more aware of how much bass frequencies you're giving them at higher volumes, or replace with aftermarket drivers that can handle the power and frequencies you're giving them.

/shameless plug: The Eminence Kappalite 3015 is a very solid driver and has taken everything I've given it so far. Got the pair for about $240.

Speakers checked out ok. Just getting too crazy with it. New TAD tubes also. Should have picked up the 1200 watt instead of the 800 hehehe. If I order a backup set I can get the 600 watt 8ohm to replace the 400 watt 4 ohm speakers in the cab. Correct? What would anyone recommend for a replacement brand Mesa or ?

Got ya, had these for about 1 1/2 years and used combos before. We are playing bigger shows now and got to get used to the gear. The GK didn't push as hard as the 440+ so that was never a issue before. Will look into the new speakers. Any other comments welcome.
