  1. You'd need larger power and output transformers, the two single most expensive components on the amp. This would require a whole different set of filter capacitors as well as different value coupling coupling between stages since you're drastically lowering the impedance between stages. You would have to use different plate and screen resistors and have to redesign the gain staging and build an inverter section strong enough to drive 12 6550's. Basically you would have to build an entirely new amp except for the tube sockets, they'd be the same. The amp would also more than double in weight. There was a 12x 6550/KT88 PA amp on eBay awhile back. It only weighed 198 lbs. Here's a picture:
